FUNDING POSSIBILITIES FOR THE TRANSLATION OF SLOVENIAN LITERATURE

1. SLOVENIAN BOOK AGENCY (JAK)
The Slovenian Book Agency is an autonomous government institution. It covers all branches of the book chain from authors to publishers to readers providing different forms of support.

The  principal  instruments  of  the  Slovenian  Book  Agency international promotion  policy  are  professional  advice, grants and national stands at international book fairs.

The Slovenian Book Agency publishes a public tender for the translation of original Slovene works into a foreign language twice a year on its website (www.jakrs.si). Translators into the foreign language themselves or legal entities that intend to ensure publication or the realisation of the translation of the work of a Slovene author (foreign publishers, theatres etc.) may apply for funds.

THERE WILL BE TWO APPLICATION DEADLINES IN 2011: FEBRUARY AND SEPTEMBER.

2. THE TRUBAR FOUNDATION
The Trubar Foundation is a joint venture of the Slovene Writers’ Association, Slovenian PEN and the Center for Slovenian Literature. Foreign publishers can apply for subsidies to publish Slovenian authors in their native languages. The Trubar Foundation contributes up to 50% of printing costs. The Board will take into account all applications for works of fiction, poetry, drama or literary essays, as long as the original manuscripts are written in Slovenian. They convene at least twice a year, usually in March and October. The Board advises applicants to submit their applications in Slovenian or in English, in written form and by regular mail.
