Alojz Ihan (1961) is a doctor, specialist in medical microbiology and immunology. Beside his medical profession he is also an acclaimed poet, writer, essayist and editor who regularly writes for Slovene newspapers and journals. So far he has published six poetry collections, four novels, three collections of essays and several scientific books. He has been awarded Rožanc award for best essay collection in 2013 (for collection Državljanski eseji / Civic essays), Jenko award for best poetry collection in 1996 (for collection Južno dekle / Southern girl) and Prešeren fund award for his poetry collection Srebrnik / Silver coin in 1986. His latest book is a novel Pictures at an exhibition (2013).
