The Central European initiative of Read Central is a publishing assotiation of three Publishers. Beletrina from Ljubljana (Slovenia), Fraktura from Zagreb (Croatia) and Magveto from Budapest (Hungary), established in 2008. The cooperation serves as a representive of the mutual authors of the three publishing houses. We also participate in book events together and launch common campaigns to promote Central-European literature. It's aim is to represent and promote quality Literature from Central Europe.
Slovene partner Beletrina Academic Press is one of the most highly esteemed literary imprints in Slovenia - Beletrina imprint, established in 1995. The publishing house has gained its reputation primarily by introducing prominent works of contemporary world and national literature to Slovene readers. Our goal is to set standards for a new publishing philosophy which, in addition to focusing on noncommercial titles and giving priority to inventiveness, freshness and directness, respects authors and invests considerable effort in the promotion of their work.
Beletrina‘s list of contemporary Slovene authors is essential, focused as it is on highly regarded writers who not only attract substantial attention today but promise to flourish for decades to come. Though the imprint emphasizes younger prose writers and poets, many older and established authors have contributed to its richness and diversity. Among others we published: Lojze Kovačič, Goran Vojnović, Miha Mazzini, Dušan Čater, Feri Lainšček, Boris Pahor and others.
So far we translated also many esteemed foreign authors:
Bernardo Atxaga, Roberto Bolano, Maria Barbal, Pascal Bruckner, Ramon Gomez de la Serna, Gesualdo Bufalino, Jaume Cabre, Mia Couto, Čehov, Houellebecq, Dostojevski, Herta Müller, Jonathan Franzen, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Franz Kafka, Bohumil Hrabal, Enrique Vila-Matas, Jesus Moncada, Andrej Stasiuk, Flannery O’Connor, Erik Orsenna, Georges Perec, Sergio Pitol, W.G. Sebald, Zadie Smith, Goncalo Tavares, Miloš Urban, Dubravka Ugrešić, Ken Saro-Wiwa, Marguerite Yourcenar, David Grosmann, Daniel Kehlmann …
